Who?
Who can participate in Erasmus Teaching Mobility?
The ERASMUS programme gives university teachers the possibility to spend teaching periods abroad. These periods can be from a few days to six weeks.
Teaching staff mobility can be undertaken:
1) to an Higher Education Institution (HEI) which holds a standard ERASMUS University Charter (EUC) and with which a valid Inter-institutional Agreement is in place
2) by staff of an enterprise invited to an HEI to undertake teaching activities. In these cases the mobility is managed by the HEI.
The selection of teachers to undertake teaching assignments must be based on a short "Teaching programme" submitted by the teacher and which has been endorsed by both sending and receiving institutions. The essential elements of this should be: objectives and added value of the mobility, content of the teaching programme, expected results.
Priorities
The Keele European Working Party uses the following Erasmus National Agencies criteria in allocating grants:
- Grants shall be awarded exclusively to teachers participating in an exchange to an institution with an Erasmus University Charter and with which the institution has a bilateral agreement.
- Teachers must be employed by the contractor for the equivalent of at least 50% of a full-time employment contract.
- A national of a participating country or recognised by the UK as a refugee, stateless person or permanent resident
- Priority is given to teachers whose contributions will be an integral part of a diploma/degree programme of the host institution.
- Priority is given to teachers whose contributions will lead to the production of new teaching material.
- Teachers going abroad for the first time. Students must be visited at the same time (i.e. same partner as Student Mobility).
- Normally, only one grant per School per country.
- Normally, only one Teaching Grant per named individual unless HOS requests otherwise.
- If no students to visit the potential for establishing Student exchange or other links must be strong.
- Potential for spin-offs in other areas must be strong. Each School that applied to be allocated one grant if funds allow unless member of staff involved has turned down grant after initial acceptance purely on financial grounds.
- Reciprocal visits are favoured over one-way visits.
Grants
Mobility grants for staff are provided as contributions towards subsistence and travel and are paid on the basis of receipted expenditure.
You will be informed of your grant once you have been selected.
The maximum travel grant is €500.
Selection Criteria and Deadlines
Selection of Teaching Staff
The selection of staff will be undertaken by the European Working Party (see criteria above) on the basis of a "teaching plan" submitted by the applicant, which has been endorsed by both the sending and host institution or enterprise. The essential elements of the teaching plan should cover overall aims and objectives, expected results in terms of training or learning, activities to be carried out and, where possible, a detailed programme for the period abroad. This plan can be downloaded in our downloadable section of the website.
Deadline
Deadline for submission of the work plan to The Study Abroad Office: 14 December 2012. Decision by 18 January 2013.
Duration
Duration of teaching period
The duration of the teaching period shall be from 1 (5 working days) to 6 weeks, but is likely to be no more than 1 week Weekends or holidays falling in the period of the stay abroad are not considered for support, unless they are used as working or travel days. In such cases the teaching plan should demonstrate that teaching activities have been undertaken for the period reported. All payments, for both travel and subsistence, will be made on the basis of receipted expenditure and may be subject to audit.
Before & After
Before you travel
Before you travel abroad, you should read the Travel Overseas Policy and complete the Risk Assessment OS Travel form.
Teaching report
Upon return from the teaching period, the staff member shall provide a short report.. This can be downloaded in our downloadable forms section of the website.
