Keele International: Study Abroad

Who is Eligible?

Keele University has developed relationships with a number of International research institutes, and has built on this experience to enable well-qualified students to develop their scientific training and employment skills within an international context. We believe that this will help to develop future employees with an international outlook.

Students will spend the first part of the course at Keele, and will then undertake a placement at a international research institute as laboratory research assistants, working on projects in the host institution and pursuing a programme of research training. Students will take up a placement in an international host research institution appropriate for their scientific interests. Placements are available in the countries and disciplines listed below

Countries: France, The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Spain, Norway and Ireland.

Placements are available in the following Postgraduate courses:

  • MSc Neuroscience Research Training (with international placement)
  • MSc Chemistry Research Training (with international placement)
  • MSc Geosciences Research Training (with international placement)
  • MSc Forensic Sciences Research Training (with international placement)
  • MSc Mathematics  Research Training (with international placement)

Language Training

If you plan to do this you should ideally sign up for a language course as part of your first or second year. For international placements for example in the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Ireland and Poland possible arrangements can be made.

What shall I do Next?

Financial support may be available to students during their placements in Europe. For further details of the MSc Programmes please see the School of Life Sciences and the Postgraduate Prospectus. Once you have arrived at Keele you will attend meetings with Prof Hoole and Lisa Stoker who will discuss the details regarding the practical matters of your international placement e.g. insurance, health & safety, travel arrangements, accommodation etc.

European grants are paid as a flat rate and calculated on a monthly rate. Currently the first instalment rate is (approx €370 per month). This is to contribute towards living costs, travel and insurance.
