Biography

Declan joined the Language Centre as a Lecturer in English Language in 2021, having previously taught academic English at several universities in the UK, China and Vietnam. He is currently the Pre-sessional course coordinator, module lead for Academic English for International Governance and teaches academic skills to Foundation Year and postgraduate students at Keele.

Declan has an MA in Applied Linguistics, an MA in Sociocultural Linguistics, a Bachelor's (Hons) degree in law (BCL) and has postgraduate certificates in the following areas: Higher Education Practice, English Language Teaching and Academic Writing Development. He also has a Cambridge DELTA Module 3 (EAP), Cambridge CELTA and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Declan’s interests are primarily in the areas of English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP), academic writing, teaching and learning in higher education, sociolinguistics and (English) language variation.
