Advancing Applied Maths and Computing - Logic, Codes and Cryptography
Advancing Applied Maths and Computing - Logic, Codes and Cryptography (15 credits)
This module shows you how to apply mathematical logic and other mathematical techniques to decode manual and electronic cyphers. Playing the role of a cryptographer, you will follow an Enigma encoded message from its initial capture by radio right through each stage that would have been followed at Bletchley Park until it has been deciphered into ULTRA Intelligence. You will use techniques developed between 1940-1945, but also explore how current online applications greatly assist in this area of work.
