Biography
Jeanette joined the Foundation Year teaching staff in 2020. She has worked in education for over 30 years, teaching secondary and FE art and design both in the UK and abroad. Her interests include community participation, social justice and the arts which led her to undertake a social science research Masters at Keele in 2017 graduating with distinction. In 2023 she completed a PhD at Keele's School of Medicine with research which explored health and wellbeing and the experiences, motivations and barriers to community arts participation in Stoke-on-Trent.
Research and scholarship
Scholarship interests include enrichment activities and that impact on social capital building with plans to facilitate future research in this area.
Additionally, understanding in what ways peer marking in group work impacts on motivations, behaviours and attitudes towards independent learning.
Teaching
FYO-00181 Academic and Professional Development for Health Professionals: Facilitating sessions which provide students with the academic, professional and personal skills that they will need in year one and into their healthcare routes.
FYO-00245 Foundations of Health and Society. Within this module the teaching focuses on helping students understand that health is an interdisciplinary and societal concern and understand the inequalities which impact on health outcomes.
FYO-00336 Advancing Health and Society. This is a new module which focuses on communicating health information to a diverse UK audience with an emphasis on equality, diversity and inclusion.
