Bursaries and Scholarships 2012
A range of bursaries and scholarships is available for students commencing their undergraduate studies at Keele in September 2012:
The Keele University Bursary (no application needed)
A bursary of £1,000 a year is available for all undergraduate students who:
- Commence their full-time undergraduate degree at Keele in September 2012,
- Have a gross annual household income below £25,000
- Receive the maximum maintenance grant or Special Support Grant of £3250 in 2012/13
- Are not on a course that receives other public funding eg. NHS funded courses, PGCE or Social Work
The National Scholarship Programme (application needed)
Of the students who meet the criteria for the Keele University Bursary, a proportion will receive a National Scholarship Award worth £3,000 a year. The first year award comprises a £2,000 tuition fee reduction and a £1,000 cash bursary and in subsequent years a £3,000 fee reduction.
You can receive either the National Scholarship or the Keele University Bursary, but not both.
The National Scholarship is based on criteria including (but not restricted to); eligibility for Free School Meals, receipt of a ChildCare Grant, being a Looked After Child, completion of Keele's A2K scheme.
We will send National Scholarship Programme application forms and further details to students who receive an offer of a place at Keele. If you are holding an offer from Keele but have not received an application form, please print off a form and guidance below and send the application form to us as soon as possible:

We are still accepting applications for the National Scholarship Award from 2012 new entrants. So, if you expect to enrol in your first year at Keele in September this year and you beleive that you will receive the maximum maintenance grant (or if you have already had notification from Student Finance England that this is the case), look at the guidance above to see whether you are eligible to apply for a National Scholarship Programme Award from Keele. PGCE students - The Keele Bursary
UK and EU students commencing a full-time PGCE course at
Keele University in September 2012 who have
a gross annual household income below £25,000 including any bursary income and who are in receipt of the maximum
maintenance grant or Special Support Grant will receive a Keele Bursary of
£800. The bursary will be paid early in semester two.
The Keele Excellence Scholarships (no application needed)
The Excellence Scholarship is a cash award paid to students who attain the highest grades in their pre-entry qualifications, regardless of household income levels.
£2,000 Scholarship
If you attain a minimum of three "A" grades at A2 level (or equivalent in other similar
qualifications) and
you commence a full-time undergraduate degree course at Keele University in September 2012 and
You are a UK or EU student liable to pay £9,000 tuition fees
You should receive a Keele University Excellence Scholarship of £2,000 a year for the
duration of your full-time, undergraduate degree course at Keele University.
Students taking undergraduate medicine are not eligible to receive the Keele Excellence Scholarship.
£1,000 Scholarship
If you attain a minimum of two A grades and one B grade at A2 level (or equivalent –

a full-time undergraduate degree course at Keele University in September 2012 and
You are a UK or EU student liable to pay £9,000 tuition fees
You should receive a Keele University Excellence Scholarship of £1,000 a year for the
duration of your full-time, undergraduate degree course at Keele University.
Please note that the Excellence Scholarship will be awarded to students taking an undergraduate degree course of no longer than four years' duration at Keele University.
The Scholarship will not be awarded to students who receive NHS or other public funding for their course.

Please note that you do not have to apply for these bursaries or the scholarship; we should be able to assess your eligibility using information we already have. You should have received a detailed leaflet explaining how and when the awards are paid and when you will receive notification. If not, you can print off this copy
If, and only if, you are eligible to receive a bursary or scholarship we will write to you before Christmas provided we have all of the information we need in order to determine your eligibility. If you don’t hear from us by 17th December in your first year and you believe that you are eligible for an award please contact us. Payment dates are on the news section of these web pages.
Bursaries and Scholarships for Entrants to Keele in 2010
Bursaries and Scholarships for students who commenced study at Keele between 2006 and 2008 (“old scheme”).
Students who enrolled at Keele before September 2009 may receive bursaries and scholarships from the original bursaries scheme. You will not be eligible for bursaries or a scholarship from the new scheme.
If you first enrolled in the first year at Keele between 2006 and 2008 and are in receipt of one or more of the following bursaries:
- KeeleLink Bursary
- Ethnic Minority Bursary
- Rural Bursary
- Medical Bursary
- Deans’ Scholarship
- Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship
- Lindsay Scholarship
- Law Scholarship
- Care Leavers’ Bursary
You will receive payment annually into your bank account for up to four years or until the end of your undergraduate course at Keele, whichever is soonest. It is not possible to apply for a bursary or scholarship once you are enrolled at Keele; those who are eligible to receive a bursary under the “old scheme” were informed in writing before, or during, their first year at Keele.
Payments are made at the end of January in one payment for awards up to and including £1000; awards over £1000 are paid in two instalments, one in January and the other in the second week in May. If your circumstances or your bank account details change please contact bursaries@acad.keele.ac.uk
