Sports Centre

‘Play’ Sport is a sports programme aimed at students who want to play sport at a recreational level without having to commit to the demands of training and playing for a club. It consists of a variety of friendly give-it-a-go sessions, leagues and one off tournaments throughout the year, that provide students with the opportunity to participate on a more regular basis at times best suited to them.


‘Play’ Sport allows students to be proud of representing the courses they are on, the Halls in which they live or on the social teams they have formed, with the intention of having fun and trying new sports.


How Do I Play?

  • Fill out our short form to register for the sessions and bring it along on your first session. 

--- Whilst this can be frustrating you only need to do this once and it allows us to monitor how well we are doing. Play Sport Sign Up Form  

  • Thats it! Just turn up at the advertised time. 

--- Some sessions are charged & others aren't.  One thing to note is that the structered leagues require team forms to be set & completed before the start of the leagues.

‘Play’ Sport - Come and Play

  • Our Come and Play programme provides the opportunity for students to attend drop in sessions to try a new sport, have fun and make friends.
  • Taster sessions are usually 1 off informal sessions where particpators may pay a fee 'on the door'
  • Great for: Getting started in sport, Playing non-competitive with friends

Play’ Sport - Activ8

  • Active 8 offers a wide variety of sports consisting of Leagues, and one off tournaments. Leagues are 8 weeks long and games usually last 30 minutes.
  • Programmes usually paid per block.
  • Great for: Organised weekly sport - Playing during lunch breaks or between Lectures.

‘Play’ Sport - XL

  • XL leagues provide full sided, full- officiated leagues in 4 different sports, which are supported by TEAM:Keele.
  • 'Play' Sport leagues are official and Team forms must be completed and authorised to enter the league
  • Great for: Fully officiated sport - Playing without the training commitments of representing the University.

  Where: Keele Sports Centre Astro Pitch   Price: £80 Per Team

  When: Every Monday 19:00 - 22:00 Starting: Mon 10th Oct (9 Weeks)

  Basketball - 4 V 4

  Where: Keele Sports Centre Wallshaw Sports Hall   Price: £60 Per Team

  When: Every Friday 19:00 - 21:00 Starting: TBC

   Netball -

  Where: Keele Sports Centre Wallshaw Sports Hall   Price: £70 Per Team

  When: Every Monday 19:00 - 22:00 Starting: Mon 10th Oct (9 Weeks)

   Touch Rugby 7's -

  Where: Keele Sports Centre Grass Pitch   Price: £70 per team

  When: Every Saturday 11:00 - 13:00 Starting: TBC

Introduction

Throughout the year >PLAY sport provides students with the opportunity to gain a variety of coaching qualifications in sport at times best suited to them.

These courses will be regularly updated on the >PLAY sport website and will run across two Universities (Keele and Staffordshire Universities) to make them more affordable for students to attend.

To gain the qualifications students need to gain valuable >PLAY experience through planning and delivering session which is where >PLAY sport is here to help.

As >PLAY sport offering a wide variety of opportunity all year round for students/staff to get involved in which makes >PLAY ideal for students to register as part of the volunteer work force to complete the hours needed to gain the qualification as well as gaining the experience needed for future employment. 

There is a variety of Come and >PLAY sessions, >PLAY Leagues and >PLAY One off Tournaments and Events, that students can help organise, deliver and run, to successfully complete the course they are on and gain a better University experience through >PLAY sport.
