Physical Activity At Keele University
Being active at any age helps control your weight, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol and will provide long term benefits for your heart and general health. Even starting to be active in middle age can increase your life expectancy by two years, the same benefit as giving up smoking. In fact, people of all ages who are physically active are half as likely to get cardiovascular disease as those that are inactive.
Building activity into your days gives you more energy, helps maintain a healthy weight, strengthens joints and helps to relieve stress. It doesn’t have to be vigorous workout – all movement counts. Any moderate activity such as walking that makes you feel slightly out of breath but still able to have a conversation is great.. There are three ways you can get more activity into your life: reduce the amount of time you spend sitting down, get active when travelling and by taking up an active hobby. Succeeding in even one of them can make a difference.
