Mikey Aveline, (BA (Hons) International Relations and Music Technology (2011)
I graduated from Keele University in July 2011 in International Relations and Music Technology. I have recently completed an internship with the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, based in Arusha, Tanzania, where I worked as a Protocol Intern within the External Relations and Strategic Planning Section.
The functions of the section include protocol and conference services, relations of the Tribunal with Member States and other international and non-governmental organisations, the academic and the private sector, strategic planning and policy development, press releases, and fund-raising.
My role itself included aspects of event management and to overall project a positive image of the Tribunal to visitors. The work involved giving tours around the Tribunal to student groups, professors and VIP officials. I also scheduled meetings for UN officials, booked venues for these meetings, and arranged transport for VIP visitors. Due to the nature of the work, I was fortunate enough to meet an interesting array of people -Members of Parliament, Ambassadors, Under-Secretary Generals and the Tribunal’s President and Registrar.
Working for the United Nations was a truly wonderful and eye-opening experience.
