The Enigma of Iran
Naveed Sheikh (Lecturer in International Relations in SPIRE) spoke this week before the Stone-chapter of the Rotary Club on "The Enigma of Iran: Seeking Sanity, Stability and Security in Troubled Time".
His presentation discussed the construction of the identity of modern Persia, the politics of the Iranian revolution, the hybridity of the constitutional order, political contestation within the post-Khomeini republic, inter-factional rivalry among the clergy, Iran's response to 9/11, and the question of Iran's nuclear programme.
The talk was followed by a lively round of questions and an invitation to come back to speak again.
