First SPIRE 'A' Level Expo
On Friday 22 June, SPIRE hosted its first "'A' LEVEL EXPO", a new event designed to provide 'A' Level students from local schools and colleges with an introduction to University-level Politics, International Relations and Philosophy.
It was organised by James Tartaglia, Senior Lecturer in Philosophy, and students and their teachers attended from Newcastle under Lyme College, Brine Leas School, and St John Fisher Catholic College.
Dr.Jon Herbert started proceedings with an engaging and highly interactive talk about the politics of the current election in the U.S.A., then Mr. Dave Scrivener, assisted by graduate teaching assistant Duncan Weaver, gave a talk about the international relations of war and peace, after which Dr. Tartaglia, assisted by Holly Fernyhough, who graduates in philosophy this year, gave a talk about the metaphysics of personal identity.
The talks were followed by a tour of the campus and a talk about campus life at Keele. Much enthusiastic feedback was received from participants, and the SPIRE EXPO will now be an annual event at Keele.
