Book launch: 21st Century Diplomacy
SPIRE's Dr Lorna Lloyd, Reader in International Relations and Series Editor of Continuum's new, Key Studies in Diplomacy, will be releasing the first new volume in August 2011. Entitled 21st Century Diplomacy A Practitioner’s Guide, it is by Kishan S. Rana a retired senior Indian diplomat, author and teacher. The 'Practitioner's Guide' provides a definitive guide to diplomacy as practiced today.
With a multitude of examples from around the world, including the US, UK, EU, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, the book covers the spectrum of diplomacy practice, including regional diplomacy, diplomacy of small states, performance management, handling of decisions and crisis, use of information technology, and reform in foreign ministries.
A companion website to the book, graciously hosted by the DiploFoundation features additional materials including practice exercises.
The next two volumes in the series will be G.R. Berridge, Embassies in Armed Conflict and John Young, David Bruce and Diplomatic Practice: An American Ambassador in London, 1961-69.
Dr Lloyd would be glad to hear from anyone interested in contributing to the series.
