Epistemologies The Emerging Securities Unit (SPIRE/RISS) hosted on the 7th of November 2011, its research workshop 'Epistemologies of the Political, the Global and the International'.

The event was co-funded by the Postructuralist Politics Working Group of the British International Studies Association. Professor Michael Shapiro from the University of Hawaii at Manoa delivered a keynote address entitled 'Against Explanation: Thinking Politically after the Aesthetic turn'.

As an invitation to reflect collectively 'on the ways we know our world as object of research' participants intervened in a wider debate on the need to make explicit the epistemologies that support authoritative ways of imagining politics.

The event was convened by Dr Luis Lobo-Guerrero and supported by Dr Barry Ryan and Dr Peter Adey with the logistic support of Corey Walker-Mortimer and the staff of the RISS.
