The School of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy (SPIRE)  held a symposium on the general election on 18 May 2010. The guest speaker at the event was Professor Andrew Gamble (Head of the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge ) who delivered a presentation entitled ‘After the Election: The Political Prospect’.

Professor Gamble’s talk covered the highs and lows of the election campaign and the accuracy of the polls, analysed the strategies behind the coalition talks, and considered the prospects of the new government and of party politics in the UK.  The event, held in response to student demand and organized by Dr Elisabeth Carter and Dr Philip Catney, brought together about 60 students and staff from across the University as well as some members of the local community.
