oil painting Dr Luis Lobo-Guerrero gave a presentation on the 7th of December 2010 of his current work on marine insurance and war to the Emerging Securities Research Group, part of the RC4SPIRE.

The presentation entitled 'Marine insurance, the security of credit and the British state at war during the Napoleonic Period' was an advance of his forthcoming book 'Insuring War: marine insurance and the security of 'this Commercial Kingdom' to be published by Routledge in 2012. 

In the presentation Lobo-Guerrero highlighted the intimate relationship between Lloyd's Coffee House and the Board of Admiralty during the last part of the long eighteenth-century and theorised the relationship as 'a partnership' that helps understand British state formation at the end of the mercantilist age.
