Social Work Research
Teaching on the social work degrees at Keele is supported by a research active team of staff who are all members of the Research Institute of Life Course Studies.
Members of the team have published widely and regularly present their work at international and national conferences. Social work staff are visiting researchers at universities in Australia, Canada and the USA and in return international scholars also visit Keele and provide occasional lectures and workshops on the Keele social work programmes.
The interests of the social work team are varied and include the following topics: social work with older people; ageing and social relationships; participatory research; children's rights and advocacy; institutional care and child development; race and ethnicity in welfare policy and practice; minority language policy and provision; rural social work; values and ethics; and social work education.
The social work team are strongly committed to dissemination of research and the development of research skills and capacity among practitioners. In line line with this commmitment, they are active participants, both locally and nationally, in the Making Research Count initiative.
