Lester is currently a Lecturer in Social Work here at Keele University.  He previously worked as a local authority Social Worker for 18 years in a variety of roles beginning as a residential Social Worker then moving into field Social Work where he worked with both adults and children before specialising in working with people with learning disabilities.

He has been a lecturer in Social Policy at Nottingham (Trent) University and at Sheffield Hallam University before lecturing in Social Work at North East Wales Institute and now Keele since February 2006.

He is the author of a number of journal articles and books on social work, his most recently published book being Values and Ethics in Social Work Practice in 2006.  His teaching and research interests focus upon the application of social policy to social work, ethics and values in social work practice.
