Before seeing the light and moving to Keele, I started my mathematical career at Warwick where I obtained a degree in mathematics. In need of further mathematical enrichment, I continued to take a PhD, studying how algebraic techniques, like group theory, can be used to study differential equations! This has applications to many different areas of the physical sciences; for example, it helps us understand different animal gaits (basically, how animals move around) in biology.
Before coming to Keele I was a centre manager with the Further Maths Network and then an Area Coordinator with the Further Maths Support Programme. Like David Bedford here at Keele, I supported the mathematical development of students across Birmingham and The Black Country, providing enrichment events and tuition for Maths and Further Maths A-level.
At Keele, along with my university teaching, I'm involved with a wide range of outreach events; I enjoy showing people how maths helps us understand the world around us and hopefully changing their perceptions of the subject.
