The 9-item tool is designed to classify patients into one of three subgroups for targeted primary care management:
-
low risk
-
medium risk (physical indicators)
-
high risk (physical & psychosocial indicators)
In addition to the Keele SBST a number of modified versions are available, although it must be stressed that the validation of these tools is still in progress.
The 6-item tool is a modification of the 9-item tool that has been developed for use by General Practitioners. It is designed to classify patients into one of two subgroups for targeted primary care management:
-
low risk
-
medium/high risk
The 9-item clinical measurement tool has the 9-item's response options modified to numerical rating scales to make the tool responsive to change so that clinicians can objectively measure the extent to which their treatments are helping to tackle the clinical predictors screened by the 9-item tool.
The 5-item generic condition tool consists of the 5 psychosocial subscale items to identify patients who are distressed by their condition. Patients are likely to be distressed by their condition if they score 4 or more.
There is also an online version of the tool.
