Meet our students

Here are some of our postgraduate students and here is what they had to say.... .

Taptuk Erkoc Taptuk Erkoc's PhD addresses 'The economics of non-profit organizations'.  After a general discussion on the role of non-profit organisations in market economies, his research addresses some relevant empirical questions, such as the efficiency of non-profit organisations (compared with the public or private sector) with respect to Turkish data.
Emily Gray Emily Gray's PhD addresses ‘What happens to persistent and serious young offenders when they grow up?’.  Her study hopes to shed new light on the long-term impacts of criminal justice interventions on the lives of (formerly) serious and persistent young offenders as they mature, through the deployment of advanced statistical techniques and a interpretive set of approaches.  She is interested in both the impact on patterns of criminal behaviour and the development of key domains of adult life such as relationships, education and training and physical and mental health. The project is joint-funded by the ESRC and Youth Justice Board.
Robin Hadley is a mature student who is in the first few months of a PhD. A number of factors influenced my decision to choose Keele. Firstly it is internationally recognised for the standard of its research. Secondly having visited the campus I was very impressed with the facilities and its setting. Thirdly I asked people who had been to Keele either as undergraduates or postgraduates and heard only praise and fondness. Finally all the people I have met and dealt with have been very friendly and genuinely interested in making the achievement of my PhD as smooth as possible.
 Katie McGettigan

Katie McGettigan is originally from Stratford upon Avon and is studying for a PhD in American Literature. Her focus is on the relationship between the later fiction of Herman Melville and the conditions of literary production in the nineteenth century. She moved to Keele having completed her BA and MS at Oxford University, and found it very easy to get involved in the close-knit and friendly community at the university.

 Tom Shave

Tom Shave followed his MRes Music Technology, going into the PhD course. Originally from Stoke, he lives on campus as a resident tutor, and plays squash and coaches korfball.

Chris Zebrowski

Chris Zebrowski's research is concerned with analyzing the notion of resilience within contemporary security discourses, and especially those associated with Critical Infrastructure Protection.  His thesis is arranged in two parts consisting of a genealogy of the notion of resilience and a critical evaluation of its significance within contemporary security rationalities and practices respectively.

He is also a research assistant to the Biopolitics of Security Network Website, Managing Editor of the In-Spire Journal for Law Politics and Societies at the ILPJ and a member of the International Collaboratory on Critical Methods in Security Studies (ICCM).
