Dr Coxhead is a Keele graduate, initially studying English and History combined with teacher training, who has worked in public services for the last twenty years. John returned to Keele to study criminology and later completed a doctorate at Derby, where he now supervises other doctoral students. Research and teaching interests are broad: from early intervention and prevention of offending, analysis of serious and organised crime, improving links between research and professional practice and social justice issues affecting Romany Gypsies, Irish Travellers and Roma.
John has carried out research for the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), Home Office, Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Youth Justice Board (YJB).
He is twice winner of a Queen’s Award for innovation in policing, receiving a Yellow Rose Award for Human Rights by International Gypsy Traveller Affairs, and is Director of Research for the European Roma Law Enforcement Association (Budapest). John currently works as a Multi-Agency Team Manager, developing integrated analysis and early intervention and prevention for young people.
