Thesis Title

Sex and Relationship Education and Primary School Children's Gendered Identities.

This research topic aims to:

  1. Unpick teachers' and parents views about what constitutes appropriate Sex and Relationship Education for Key Stage 1 children;
  2. Develop and understanding, through their own voices, of children's perspectives, conceptions and development of gender roles, thereby exposing the playground and classroom as appropriated by children as simultaneously public and private spaces for the construction of their sexualised and gendered identities;
  3. Compare parents' and teachers' perspectives in childhood gendered and sexual development with children's experiences, knowledge and attitudes.
