Cultural and Media Studies
Cultural and Media Studies draws together staff from across the Research Institutes, and in particular from the disciplines of English, Film Studies, Music, and Sociology. In September 2007 the Institute introduced a new route to its very successful MRes Humanities Programme on Media, Communications and Culture. The programme also offers an MA in Global Media and Culture.
Currently, twenty staff contribute to the MCC undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, from a range of disciplines: English, Geography, Film Studies, Modern Languages, Music, Sociology, and Visual Arts. The research interests covered by these staff ranges from media and cultural theory to international cinema; from globalization to cultural history; and from the visual representation of marginalised groups to ecocriticism and the environment.
We have an active research culture in MCC, which is fostered by a regular guest speaker series, and a Cultural Theory seminar group that meets monthly during term time.
