Born 1928, married, one son. Ended full-time education in 1942, administration railways 1943 to 1966 followed by administration at Keele University to 1988 (1946-48, RAF, mostly in Germany). Member, Chartered institute of Transport from 1960.
Keele University Certificate in Local History 1972; MA by thesis on Longton pottery History 1986; Research fellow in Ceramic History 1990, for work on history of Churchill China.
From the 1970’s, developed a strong interest in ceramic industry history. Committee member and joint Journal editor of Northern Ceramic Society, trustee of Gladstone Pottery Museum. Research leading to publications listed.
Churchill China (1994) revised edition (2010); English Dry-Bodied Stoneware with Diana Edwards (1998); pottery References in the Staffordshire Advertiser (2000); White Salt-Glazed Stoneware of the British Isles with Diana Edwards (2005); shorter papers in appropriate journals.
