How to Join the Research Institute
All members of academic staff at Keele are eligible to apply for Research Institute membership at any time during the year.
Membership is reviewed annually, on the basis of research activity against individual research plans.
Full members are entitled to be considered for buy-out of research time from Institute funds, including sabbatical leave, and can draw upon support provided by the Institute.
Affiliate members include those who for contractual or other reasons are not eligible for full membership of the Institute.
This includes teaching fellows, external researchers/visiting scholars, or members of staff who have an association with the Research Institute through joint working but do not seek full membership.
Affiliate members will be invited to participate in the research activities of the Institute, but are not entitled to draw upon the research infrastructure of the Institute.
New members of staff are eligible to apply for Research Institute membership when they join the University or subsequently during the year. The membership application form and outline of procedure for new and existing staff members, is available here.
In applying for membership, those applying will need to demonstrate the following:
- Their 'fit' with the research and enterprise themes of the relevant Institute
- Evidence of research activity within the last three years (to include publications), and presentation of outline plans for research activity over the next 2 years which they would expect to undertake within the Institute.
New members of staff are also asked to provide evidence of research output data such as:
- number of publications over the last three years
- number of research grant applications over the last three years
- details of research grants successfully received
- no of PGR students supervised
Applications are assessed against the two above criteria by the Research Institute Director.
