Our research aims to contribute towards preventing musculoskeletal conditions from starting, getting worse or causing long-term disability in later life. These conditions are researched using a range of traditional and innovative approaches and methods. Within medical sociology a range of qualitative methods are used to explore people’s life course experience of health and illness and to health and well-being in older people. This group has an interest in the development of qualitative methods for researching chronic painful conditions. There is an active user involvement group in the RI for PCHS and part of the remit of the medical sociology grouping is to evaluate and explore user involvement in research.
