Posted on 11 October 2012

Professor Mihaela Kelemen and Dr Anita Mangan, Keele Management School, hosted an AHRC-funded workshop on Personal Communities last week.

The full-day event featured invited speakers from Essex, Teeside, Keele and Warsaw universities, as well as a presentation from Sue Moffat, Director of New Vic Borderlines.

The workshop was attended by over 30 participants from around the UK and the debates around volunteering, charity and personal communities were thought-provoking.

The Personal Communities project is multi-disciplinary and critical, exploring the interplay between the theoretical foundations and artistic/ experiential research about volunteering.

Funding for the project comes from the Connected Communities programme, a major new cross-council research initiative, led by the AHRC.The picture shows Sue Moffat, left, with Professor Kelemen.
