Keele Students Capture Life Stories

Posted on 29 June 2012

Psychology students from Keele have been working with residents from Beaumaris Court, in Newcastle, to capture their tales of wartime, childhood and other personal experiences.

And a booklet featuring their life stories – Life In Our Younger Years – is set to be taken into local schools to help younger generations bring their history lessons alive.

The students involved in the life stories project, organised by Dr John Hegarty, had volunteered so they could gain an insight into clinical psychology. Reminiscence work is often used as therapy.
Joseph Goodwin, aged 24, said: "I enjoyed doing it. The project was also about the interaction between generations."

Copies of the booklet are on sale for £1.50 to raise money for Beaumaris Court's chosen charity, First Response. The students presented copies to residents during a party at the care home.

An article about this research project was published in the Sentinel on 18 June 2012.
