Keele Mass Spectrometry Workshop Looks Forward
A workshop on Mass Spectrometry, bringing together scientists using variations on the technique throughout the University, was held at Keele this week.
The theme was "An informative approach to advancing diagnostic research" with talks being divided into two streams - instrumentation and methodology, and current clinical research. An emphasis on discussion at the meeting brought together fundamental scientists and clinicians.
The session chairs and speakers were Professor David Smith FRS, Dr Paul Roach, Professor Patrik Spanel, Dr Heidi Fuller, Dr Mark Lambie, Professor Simon Davies and Dr Frank Rutten. Also speaking were Dr Fran Gilchrist and Mr Mark Smith. Organised by the Research Institute for Science & Technology in Medicine ISTM) and held at the Guy Hilton Research Centre, the workshop opened up new opportunities for collaboration in research and postgraduate training.
Subjects discussed ranged from the excellent instrument capabilities and developments within Keele, through to actual clinical trials already underway in Keele and partner hospitals where MS-based diagnostics are already having an impact.
The workshop was supported by funds from EPSRC "Bridging the Gaps", headed by Professor Alicia El Haj, and it finished with a look forward to future developments and potential in Mass Spectrometry.
