New Electrophysiology facilities for cellular engineering
Four members of ISTM's neuroscience research group based in the Huxley Building have together designed and purchased a new set of Electrophysiology equipment, enabled by a commitment of £11,230 Higher Education Funding Council capital funds from the Faculty of Health.
Drs Dave Mazzocchi-Jones, Divya Chari, Mike Evans and Stas Glazewski have put together a tissue slice electrophysiological recording setup, which enhances the current array of recording techniques, and enables them to expand the scope of on-going cellular engineering projects. Notably the use of three-dimensional tissue arrays offers a real alternative to the use of animal experimentation, of particular relevance in experimental neurology. It is also much quicker to learn to use this equipment, when compared to existing patch-clamping techniques.
Leading the bid for the new equipment, new lecturer Dave Mazzochi Jones has contributed £4,000 from his other grant support to purchase an air table to go with it. The new equipment is being commissioned in Keele's Electrophysiology Laboratory, and is available to other groups within the University for potential collaboration.
