Keele Team at International Clinical Trials Meeting
The European Medicines Agency held its annual International Clinical Trials meeting in London.
A major focus of this year's event was on findings from the PREDICT consortium, which carried out an EU funded research programme across Europe looking at the exclusion of older people from clinical trials.
The programme consisted of five arms, two of which were the responsibility of a Keele team led by Professor Peter Crome, Dr Bernadette Bartlam and Dr Frank Lally, of the Research Institute for Social Sciences.
The study confirmed that older people are consistently underrepresented, if not absent, from the majority of trials with considerable implications for their own health, and for the effective and efficient management of resources.
Details of the meeting were reported in the British Medical Journal (see here).
