2) Dual Honours Undergraduate Degrees
1. The Senate
1.1 The Senate shall constitute such Departmental and University Boards of Examiners as may be required.
2. Dual Honours Undergraduate Degrees
2.1 Departmental Boards of Examiners
a) There shall be one or more Departmental Boards of Examiners to cover each level of module offered by the department.
b) The constitution of each Departmental Board of Examiners shall be the relevant full-time academic staff of the Department/School together with such other categories of persons as the Senate may determine, which shall for Level II (FHEQ Level 5) and Level III (FHEQ Level 6) modules include the relevant external examiner(s).
c) Subject to the relevant provisions of Regulation 8, Heads of Department/School shall decide the procedure to be followed in the setting and marking of questions.
d) The functions of the Departmental Boards of Examiners shall be, within the provisions of the relevant regulations:
i) to agree on the questions to be set;
ii) to consider any extenuating circumstances notified by students and to make decisions or recommendations in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 8;
iii) to consider the assessment marks and to make recommendations to the relevant Level I (FHEQ Level 4), II (FHEQ Level 5) and III (FHEQ Level 6) University Board of Examiners concerning the marks to be awarded to each student for each module;
iv) to consider the academic progress of students and to make appropriate recommendations concerning the progress and, where relevant, reassessment of, or awards to, individual students to the appropriate Level I (FHEQ Level 4), II (FHEQ Level 5) or III (FHEQ Level 6) University Board of Examiners;
v) to make recommendations to the relevant University Board of Examiners for the award of University prizes.
2.2 University Level I (FHEQ Level 4), II (FHEQ Level 5) and III (FHEQ Level 6) Boards of Examiners
a) There shall be a University Board of Examiners for each level of module.
b) Each University Board of Examiners shall be constituted as follows:
i) a Deputy Vice-Chancellor or Pro Vice-Chancellor nominated for the year by the Vice-Chancellor to take the Chair;
ii) Heads of Departments/Schools or their nominees;
iii) such other members of the academic staff as the Senate may decide which for the Level II (FHEQ Level 5) and Level III (FHEQ Level 6) Boards of Examiners shall include the University Chief External Examiner;
c) The functions of University Boards of Examiners shall be, acting within the provisions of the relevant University regulations:
i) to agree each student's marks to be awarded for each module;
ii) to agree the progress and, where relevant, provision for retrieval of failure in respect of each student;
iii) in respect of the level III (FHEQ Level 6) Board of Examiners, to make recommendations to Senate on awards and classifications, if any, to be made to individual students;
iv) to agree the award of University prizes.
3. Other Awards
3.1 There shall be a Departmental Board of Examiners for each award, or group of cognate awards, offered by the department.
3.2 The constitution of each Departmental Board of Examiners shall be the relevant full-time academic staff of the Department/School together with such other categories of persons as the Senate may determine, which in relation to those modules which contribute to the final award shall include the relevant external examiner(s).
3.3 Subject to the relevant provisions of Regulation 8, Heads of Department/School shall decide the procedure to be followed in the setting and marking of questions.
3.4 The functions of the Departmental Boards of Examiners shall be, acting within the provisions of the relevant University regulations:
i) to agree on the questions to be set;
ii) to consider any extenuating circumstances notified by students and to make decisions or recommendations in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 8;
iii) to consider and agree the assessment marks for each student for each module;
iv) to consider the academic progress of students and to make decisions concerning the progress and, where relevant, reassessment of individual students;
v) to make recommendations to Senate on awards and classifications, if any, to be made to individual students;
vi) to make recommendations to Senate for the award of University prizes.
