6. SUB-COMMITEEE FOR EXAMINATION ABSENCES AND COURSEWORK EXTENSIONS
Scope: The Committee is responsible for ensuring the consistent and fair application of the University’s qualifications, examinations and assessment processes.
An Annual report will be circulated to Senate detailing the cases, outcomes and year to year comparisons.
(a) Terms of reference
To be responsible for and receive recommendations from Discipline Boards of Examiners on:
1* Absences from Level II (FHEQ Level 5), III (FHEQ Level 6) or M (FHEQ Level 7) examinations.
2* Failure to submit in-course assessment by the due date where the in-course assessment contributes 50% or greater to a module mark at Levels II (FHEQ Level 5), III (FHEQ Level 6) or M (FHEQ Level 7)
3* Failure to complete a professional practice placement at the appropriate time.
To make a final recommendation to the University Board of Examiners or Senate on:
4 Redeeming the examination, assessment or professional practice placement where the Committee deems there to be a sufficient case to merit such action.
5 The student failing the examination, assessment or professional practice placement with a mark of zero where the Committee deems that no sufficient case has been demonstrated and shall consequently be subject to the regulations regarding failure.
(b) Delegated powers
Sub-Committee on Examination Absences and Coursework Extensions has delegated authority to take action under items 1, 2 and 3 (*starred), reporting to Senate by exception only
(c) Constitution
Two senior members of the academic staff, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor, one to be Chair
Two members of the University Learning and Teaching Committee
The Director of or his/her nominee

For the transaction of business, not less than 40% of the voting membership must be present.

Four times a year. (September, February, May (LIII (FHEQ Level 6)) and June (LII (FHEQ Level 5) & Higher Degree (FHEQ Level 7))
