8. NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE

Scope: Identifying appropriate lay members of Council and its committees, and members of Court.

(a) Terms of reference

To make recommendations to the Council on:

1 New lay/independent members of:

(a) the Council

(b) the Strategic Planning Committee

(c) such other committees of the Council as the Council may from time to time determine in making recommendations to the Council, to have regard to the balance of membership and the needs of the University.

To be responsible for:

3* Ensuring that vacancies are publicised within the University, and that staff and students are invited to submit names to the Secretary to Council.

(b) Delegated powers

The Nominations Committee has delegated authority to take action under item 3 (*starred).

(c) Constitution

Pro-Chancellor (in the chair)

Vice-Chancellor

Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost (or a Faculty Dean)

3 lay members of Council (to include a Deputy Pro-Chancellor)

4 Independent members appointed by the Council

Total: 10

Secretary: Planning and Academic Administration

For the transaction of business, not less six (6) members must be present, providing that external members are not equal to or greater than the number of Ex-Officio, University Staff or Students.
