External Examiners Homepage

Message from the Vice Chancellor, Professor Nick Foskett, to Keele’s External Examiners:

Thank you for undertaking the role as one of Keele University’s external examiners.  At Keele, we consider external examiners to be one of the key safeguards of the academic standards of our academic programmes. This is particularly important in our dual honours programme. You are the independent and impartial advisers who provide us with informed comment on our academic standards and on student achievement in relation to those standards. The QAA have recognised the important role which external examiners play by publishing a chapter on external examining (B7) in the Quality Code for Higher Education. It sets out sector-wide expectations in relation to external examining. The University reflects these expectations in its own Code of Practice for External Examining.

We appreciate that all external examiners across the sector carry out a demanding and difficult task. Therefore, what you tell us in your report will be taken very seriously, discussed in detail by the School offering the subject you examine, and later on in various committees at Faculty and University level. This ensures that we do not overlook any of the subject-specific or university-wide implications of your comments. I am personally looking forward to a period of fruitful co-operation and trust that you too will find the constructive and open exchanges of views on academic matters here at Keele productive and enjoyable.

Thank you for your contribution to the University!
