PHD Funding Opportunities

As part of the Research Institute for Social Sciences we are pleased to announce a range of funding opportunities for new Psychology PhD students for 2013-14. We offer a wide range of specialist areas of supervision in the broad areas of Brain & Cognition; Health & Wellbeing; and Social & Developmental Psychology: for more information please see our Research pages

The first step is to identify a suitable supervisor through our Research pages, then approach them with some ideas about what your research might involve. If your interests mesh, you will then work on developing a PhD proposal in time for our 8th March deadline.  There are a number of staff who are actively looking for PhD students and who will be happy to support you in preparing an application.  Particular projects where staff are seeking well-qualified students include the following:

  • The decline in cognitive control due to healthy ageing (Dr Jim Grange): and jimgrange.com
  • The positive or negative psychological effects of swearing (Dr Richard Stephens)
  • Examining the nature of memory encoding and retrieval, with particular reference to single process and dual process memory model (Dr Andrew Rutherford)
  • Everyday experiences of using music (exercise, travel, leisure, music festivals) (Dr Alexandra Lamont)

If you have any queries or would like support in how to identify a supervisor or prepare an application please contact Dr Alexandra Lamont (a.m.lamont@keele.ac.uk), Associate Postgraduate Research Director for the Centre for Psychological Research.
