Contacting me: I am currently on maternity leave until January 2014.

After graduating from my undergraduate degree in psychology I gained experience working as an assistant psychologist in the NHS before becoming a research assistant at Staffordshire University. These experiences made me realise how much I wanted to pursue a career in academia! So while still working as a research assistant I started studying part-time for my PhD.  My PhD is supervised by Dr. Richard Jolley at Staffordshire University and focuses on the development of children’s drawing skills and the effect of different teaching methods on these.  I will be completing my PhD this year.

I joined Keele University as a Teaching Fellow in 2011. Prior to this I had gained considerable teaching experience as a part-time lecturer at Staffordshire University and also the Open University.  I taught on a wide range of undergraduate modules and also MSc courses in research methods and child development.

My expertise is in child psychology, particularly the area of children’s drawings. I am also very interested in children’s experiences at school and educational psychology.  I regularly attend conferences in this area and am a member of the Developmental Section of The British Psychological Society.

Research Projects that I have recently been involved with:

  • Undergraduate psychology students' perception of and engagement with feedback (2011-collaborating with Dr Lubna Ahmed and Dr Nadia Ali)
  • The effect of television on young children’s behaviour (2011- working with Dr Alexander Lamont and Dr Nicholas Reyland)
  • Evaluation of walking bus scheme (2011, funded by Staffordshire County Council)
