Dr Victoria Door

Victoria Door is a lecturer in Education and Teacher Training at KeeleUniversity, leading the PGCE in Secondary Modern Foreign Languages. She previously taught secondary MFL in secondary schools and where she was a Head of Department. She has extensive research experience (and an M Phil) in secondary MFL reading and writing, and the nature of MFL textbooks in Europe andEngland, and has a PhD on the role of attention in Year 9 foreign language reading.

She is also Director of CPD for the Professional Association of Alexander Teachers.

Victoria has also carried out national research into the use of ICT in the MFL classroom. She worked with the TDA on developing the national programme of enhancement courses for potential teachers of MFL.  In 2007-8 she worked with the TDA to develop links between trainee teachers of all subjects inFranceandEngland. That year she was also Regional Subject Advisor for the Secondary Curriculum Review Subject Specific Support for MFL.

Victoriahas done work in local schools over the last 3 years on teacher development, works on three Masters in Education and has just developed a new Masters which focuses on knowledge and practice.  She is currently writing about the notion of the reflexive practitioner in the context of continuing professional development for teachers, with special reference to the embodied nature of experience, using, and inspired by, the work of F.M Alexander, Dewey, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, Charles Taylor and Hubert Dreyfus.

She is a member of the Society of the Philosophy of Education (GB), the Association of Language Learning, and the Professional Association of Alexander Teachers.

  • 2001-2006 Ph.D, University of Bath. (Attention, engagement and support in Year 9 L2 reading)
  • 2003-2004. Successful joint bids with Maths from TTA & Becta to research into effective interactive whiteboard use in ITE and schools.
