Public Policy and Professional Practice

Stephen Whitehead is Keele’s Asia Programme Coordinator, based in Thailand.  Prior to that he was Senior Lecturer in Education at Keele University (UK).  He is also Visiting Professor in Gender Studies at Shih Hsin University, Taipei and a management consultant to international schools in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Aside from Keele University and Shih Hsin University, Stephen also lectures at Chiang Mai University, Thailand, where he delivers a module on ‘Gender, Sexuality and Identity in Asia’ to American postgraduate students on study-abroad programmes.

Stephen’s research draws primarily on feminist poststructuralist theories in order to critically explore men and masculinities, identity, globalised relationships, gender and sexuality, gender and management, education management, and organisational policy and practice.

Stephen has published extensively since 1998, including ten books and numerous academic journal articles and book chapters. He has undertaken research collaboration with colleagues around the world and his latest book, Gender and Identity: key themes and new directions (Oxford, 2013) was co-authored with Anita Talahite and Roy Moodley of Toronto University.
