Graeme Easdown graduated from London University in 1978 with a BA in History and, after completing a PGCE course in 1979, embarked on a teaching career in London. During his 12 years teaching in London, 8 at senior management level, he was awarded an MA in History from London University, gained extensive experience in INSET and Professional Development work and developed an interest and expertise in the use of IT in subject teaching.

In 1991 he was appointed as History Tutor in the Department of Educational Studies at Oxford University where he had joint responsibility for the PGCE history programme. He also taught on the department's MSc programmes in Educational Studies and Research Methodology and had responsibility for the supervision of a number of research students. Whilst at Oxford he researched issues related to the use ICT for subject teaching and undertook a number of research studies focused on student and experienced teachers. The results of these studies were reported nationally and internationally. He also undertook consultancy work for a number of schools that involved both evaluation and survey studies.

He joined the academic staff of Keele University Department of Education in 1996 with responsibility for the leadership of the History (Initial Teacher Education) programme. Since joining the Education department, in addition to the work in ITE, he has taught on modules in the undergraduate programme and contributed to the work of the Professional Development Unit and is currently responsible for the leadership of the MA in Educational Leadership, Management and Learning. He was involved the organisation of the Times Educational Supplement/Keele Leadership Seminar series and contributed to the evaluation study of Homework High, an on-line Study Support resource created by Channel 4. In addition to these aspects of his work he has also led successful bids for Best Practice Research Scholarships. In 2006 he was appointed to the International Advisory Board for the Nineteenth Century Serials Edition (NCSE) project and was invited to act as ‘discussant’ at a symposium for ‘The British Printed Images to 1700’ project.

Teaching and learning in history and aspects of the professional formation of student history teachers. His most recent publications report the findings of a study of History teacher attitudes to ICT and History teaching, undertaken in collaboration with Staffordshire LEA. The results of this project have been reported at national conferences and appear in an edited book on the theme of innovations in pedagogy. He is currently working on a collaborative project with colleagues from the Universities of Kentucky and Cinncinatti on the nature of school history.
