- Derek Glover
Derek was a student at LSE and then undertook a research degree at Reading whilst teaching in Middlesex and Wiltshire. He was for 18 years head of Burford School and Community College, Oxfordshire and completed his Ph.D with the Open University in 1992. He then changed direction and has worked with the Keele Department as a part-time member of staff involved with a variety of teaching and research projects. He was appointed an honorary professor in 1999 and also undertakes work as a visiting research assistant with London, Lincoln and Leicester Universities. He was visiting professor at Nottingham Trent University between 1997 and 2002.
Application of commercial sector ideas to the world of education and he is particularly interested in: community perceptions of schools; in the reality of teaching and learning for distance students (with Dr. Marianne Coleman at London University); in leadership issues ( with Prof. Tony Bush at Lincoln University ; in resource management issues (with Prof. Ros Levacic at the London Institute), and in the impact of national policy on practice in schools, especially the introduction of new technologies (with David Miller, Keele).
He has published extensively over the past decade and recently co-authored 'Educational Leadership and Learning' with Sue Law. A further volume on Improving Teaching and Learning was published in 2003.
