I arrived at Keele in November 1994 when I was appointed as the Starlink Computer Manager. Previously, I was a Postdoctoral Research Assistant at University College London where I also obtained my PhD in 1992 on The Atmospheric Parameters of Main Sequence A and F Stars.

My main area of research is stellar atmospheres, with particular interest in the various techniques which can be used to determine the temperatures, surface gravities and compositions of many types of stars. I have studied how the physics of convection can affect our perception of stellar parameters. I have a strong interest in chemically peculiar stars and I am currently a member of the International Astronomical Union Working Group on Ap and Related Stars. I'm one of Keele's members of the SuperWASP project looking for (and finding!) planets around other stars. In addition, I am a co-investigator with the ASTRA Telescope Project, which is designing and building an automatic spectrophotometer at Fairborn Observatory in Southern Arizona.
