Explore…the Pharmacy Student Society KAPS

In 2006 when the Keele School of Pharmacy accepted its first cohort, the members of that year founded a Society exclusively for pharmacy students which became known as Keele Association of Pharmacy Students (KAPS).

The Society provides various services for pharmacy students from support with their studies to social events and activities. The KAPS Society anticipates that all new students become part of the expanding unity of Keele pharmacy students.

KAPS took on a lot in their first year.   They arranged a number of informal social events and designed the distinctive KAPS hoodies worn by both staff and students.   They also took the plunge and organised the very first Pharmacy Ball.   The diverse nature of our students’ backgrounds ensured that a variety of traditional forms of dress were displayed, making the whole event extremely colourful.   The three course formal meal was followed by a piano recital from one of the students and a disco later in the evening.

The KAPS Society became involved in the ‘buddy system’ where incoming first years are assigned a buddy from the fourth year of the course.   If you have anything you’d like to discuss, perhaps in terms of social life, how to fit everything into your schedule or maybe where to find a particular type of help, your buddy can help you.   This system has the advantage of offering students access to the most up-to-date sources of information about current events at Keele – its students.   Other events organised by KAPS have included meeting with representatives of the BPSA, the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (click here for the BPSA website), going to conferences, an assortment of informal social events and, of course, more KAPS hoodies and another, larger Pharmacy Ball, held in the stunning setting of Keele Hall.

KAPS is managed by a team of pharmacy students.   A variety of positions within the leadership team are available and all students are encouraged to get involved, whether that’s being President of the Society, or helping to sell tickets to events.

Before you arrive at Keele you will be sent an invitation to join KAPS.   This gives you the opportunity to get one more thing out of the way before you arrive for your first hectic week at university.   If this isn’t convenient though, you will still have the opportunity to join once you have arrived at Keele.   You will also be provided with the contact details of the KAPS team so that you can get in touch, whether you want some friendly advice or to suggest the next social event of the year.
