Learning & Teaching Methods

A variety of learning and teaching methods are used that will mostly enable you to study at a distance from the university. The methods will also depend on the modules you choose to study. The following is intended as a guide only. You will be provided with specific details of the methods separately for the modules/courses that you choose.

Depending on your chosen course of study/modules, you will study most elements at a distance, in your own home or your workplace. You might also attend some study days at the University and/or participate in collaborative computer-mediated workshops which replace the need for some of the face-to-face interaction.

The Masters year course is referred to as a ‘Professional MSc’ course. The MSc, like all our courses, is modular. The Research Methods module has recently been developed so that students can study at a distance from the University. Previously, our students were required to attend the University for 6-7 days for this module. Understandably this was not convenient for the majority of pharmacists that had previously studied with us as distance learners. We hope that the change to a distance learning format will be attractive to students and enable you to continue your studies for a higher qualification. You will normally develop your Advanced Practice Development portfolio and conduct the Independent Study Project at a distance with the support of a Keele-based tutor.
