Community Pharmacy - Diploma Courses and Awards
There are several pathways to postgraduate Diploma awards that a community pharmacist could consider as their goal. These are shown below. Also, click on the Student Pathways link for examples of how these awards can be achieved.
Diploma in Community Pharmacy
This programme offers a pathway, leading to the award of Diploma in Community Pharmacy (Open Learn).
Pathway 1: Incorporating the certificate in Public Health Community Pharmacy.
In the first year of the course, you will complete the 3 Modules as described for the Certificate course. In the second year, your Modules choices are:
- Working with Prescribers in Primary Care - gives you a 'toolkit' to get you started working with GPs on prescribing and rationalising drug therapy. The Module includes sections on the NHS, the general practice environment, influences on prescribing and prescribing management tools eg PACT data.
- Clinical Pharmacy for Medicines Management (2) - this module aims to provide you with an understanding of clinical pharmacy and therapeutics in relation to specific clinical conditions of your choice, relevant to your practice.
- Developing and Delivering High Quality Services - looks in depth at changes in the NHS and the future delivery of healthcare services, including pharmacy services. The Module also provides a starter toolkit of resources for developing pharmacy practice, set in the context of clinical governance and practice research.
You need to gain 60 credits to complete the diploma. To do this, you can complete two of these modules as 15 credit CPD Plus modules and one as a 30 credit CPD Plus open learn module or two of these modules as 30 credit CPD Plus open learn modules. NB. Developing and Delivering High Quality Services is only available as a 15 credit module.
