Community Pharmacy - Certificate Courses and Awards
There are several pathways to a postgraduate certificate award that a community pharmacist could consider as their goal. These are shown below. Also, visit the student pathways link for examples of how these awards can be achieved.
Certificate in Public Health Community Pharmacy
This programme offers a pathway with compulsory modules from our CPD Plus+ options, leading to the award of Certificate in Public Health Community Pharmacy (Open Learn).
You will complete 3 compulsory modules:
- Promoting Health through Community Pharmacy - you will look at the role of pharmacists in promoting and supporting healthy lifestyles. Key areas where health promotion advice may lead to improved health in the general population are examined in detail. These are set in the context of the national public health agenda.
- Clinical Pharmacy for Medicines Management - aims to provide you with a clear understanding of medicines management and pharmaceutical care in the context of clinical pharmacy practice in primary care. You'll look in detail at two clinical areas of your choice. You will also gain skills in critical appraisal.
- Communication and Consultation Skills - develops your interpersonal skills with patients, special patient groups, doctors and other healthcare professionals. The concept of concordance is addressed in detail. Marketing, in relation to professional services are also covered.
Two of these modules would be completed as 15 credit CPD Plus modules and one as a 30 credit open learn module.
Having completed the Certificate course, you'll be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health Community Pharmacy (Open Learn). You can also be accredited to provide Medicines Use Review. All these modules are also available as a separate short courses. Click here for more information.
Certificate in Community Pharmacy (Open Learn)
This programme offers a flexible pathway that incorporates CPD Plus+ and CPD Plus+ Open Learn module options. For further information about these modules click here.
To gain a certificate you need to study two 15 credit CPD Plus modules and one as a 30 credit CPD Plus open learn module.
For example you might choose to study:
- Promoting Health Through Community Pharmacy at 15 credits.
- Clinical Pharmacy for Medicines Management I at 30 credits.
- Clinical Pharmacy for Medicines Management II at 15 credits.
On successfully completing these modules you would be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Community Pharmacy (Open Learn).
Certificate in Community Pharmacy (Independent Prescribing)
