Develop your knowledge of public health and health promotion to apply to pharmacy practice
This short course aims to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to public health and the promotion and support of healthy lifestyles for application in your professional practice.

Flexible delivery
The course is provided principally by one on-line distance learning (DL) Module so that you can study where and when it is most convenient for you. Our methods of delivery allow us to revise and update the course quickly to meet your changing needs as a pharmacist. You can also set your own pace for completing the course - anything from 3-6 months.

The Module covers:

  • Public health and public policy
  • The role of community pharmacy in promoting health
  • Promotion and support of healthy lifestyles
  • Helping people change their behaviour

Having completed the course, you'll be given a certificate of completion as evidence of achievement.

Attendance at Keele
This course is studied at a distance. The distance learning materials consist of an on-line module which you can access via our Keele Virtual Learning Environment (KLE).

Support from Keele
The course is fully supported by a team of experienced, friendly, and approachable academic, practitioner, administrative and technical staff. We're at the end of a telephone line on weekdays and you can e-mail us at any time. You're not on your own! And, don't forget the network of other participants on the course whom you can contact.

Assessment
Assessment is entirely by coursework, with no formal examination. You will be required to complete a number of problem solving cases which are designed to test your understanding of the course material and your ability to apply your knowledge to 'real life' situations. You will also be required to keep and submit a Reflective Portfolio documenting your record of learning, your experiences relating to the course, and your reflection of this learning throughout the course. These will be assessed by the Course Manager, supported by Course Tutors at Keele.

Credits towards Keele's Community Pharmacy programme
By completing this short course, you'll have accumulated 15 credits towards the Department of Medicines Management's well established award programme, the Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Community Pharmacy. Click here for more information about this.

Course fee
2013/14 - £610
(The University reserves the right to make changes to fees without notice)

The cost includes the distance learning Module and the online workshops component. All other expenses are the responsibility of individual course participants.

Course fees must be received by the University before any course materials are sent to you. If you are paying by cheque, please make payable to 'Keele University'.

 

CPD Plus+ Open Learn Courses
CPD Plus+ Open Learn courses will normally use fixed content, named CPD Plus+ courses as their basis and students will develop the final learning outcomes with their Keele tutor, within the requirements that are necessary for a 30 credit Open Learn version of the module.
