Develop your communication and consultation skills
This short course aims to develop your knowledge and skills of communication and consultation with the public, patients and other health care professionals for application to your professional practice. It also provides pharmacists with the opportunity to gain accreditation for Medicines Use Review.
Flexible delivery
The course is provided principally by one on-line distance learning (DL) Module so that you can study where and when it is most convenient for you. Our methods of delivery allow us to revise and update the course quickly to meet your changing needs as a pharmacist. You can also set your own pace for completing the course - anything from 3-6 months.
The Module covers:
- Communicating with Patients:
An introduction to communication - Developing your consultation skills for advanced services
Communication and concordance
Communication and Support for Self Care - Communicating with Other Professionals:
Interprofessional communication
Managing Infections
Seamless Care
Having completed the course, you'll be given a certificate of completion as evidence of achievement.
Attendance at Keele
The case is studied at a distance. The distance learning materials consist of an on-line module which you can access via our Keele Learning Environment (KLE).
Support from Keele
The course is fully supported by a team of experienced, friendly, and approachable academic, practitioner, administrative and technical staff. We're at the end of a telephone line on weekdays and you can e-mail us at any time. You're not on your own! And, don't forget the network of other participants on the course whom you can contact.
Assessment
Assessment is entirely by coursework, with no formal examination. You will be required to complete a number of problem solving cases which are designed to test your understanding of the course material and your ability to apply your knowledge to 'real life' situations. You will also be required to keep and submit a Reflective Portfolio documenting your record of learning, your experiences relating to the course, and your reflection of this learning throughout the course. These will be assessed by the Course Manager, supported by Course Tutors at Keele.
Credits towards Keele's Community Pharmacy programme
By completing this short course, you'll have accumulated 15 credits towards the Department of Medicines Management's well established award programme, the Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Community Pharmacy. Click here for more information about this.
