Supporting Students

The University provides a wide range of support services for all its students and as a postgraduate you should never need to feel that you cannot find someone to deal with issues which may arise during your study.

Student Welfare and Support

If you need help or advice during your time at Keele, there are lots of people who can support and advise you.

The International Student Support Officer, John Morris, is available throughout the year to discuss any issues that may arise and will either give you advice and support, or direct you to the most appropriate source of help in the University. There are also University microsites that specifically deal with Student Support and International Student Support issues.

The Student Support services offer general advice and support to students. The Independent Advice Unit, run by the Students’ Union, offers free, confidential and impartial advice on a range of issues including debt management, immigration and visa issues, employment, civil rights, and a range of other matters. There is a professional counselling service on campus and the Keele Postgraduate Association offers guidance to postgraduates.

Healthcare

All international students are advised to register with a GP. The medical practice on campus offers a full range of services and will be pleased to help. All full-time international students are entitled to free medical care under the UK National Health Service (NHS), but you will need to pay the standard prescription charge for any prescribed medication. We would advise you to take out medical insurance for your time at Keele, as some treatments or medical return to your home country will not be covered by the NHS. If you are under medical treatment or suffering from any disability you are asked to report to the University’s Medical Officer as soon as possible, bringing with you any relevant information from your own doctor.

There is a dental service on campus under the charge of a full-time Dental Officer.

Disability Support

The University welcomes applications from students with disabilities. We encourage you to discuss any issues you might have with our Disability Advisers prior to making an application for study, and if you have a mobility impairment we suggest that you make a visit to the campus at an early stage. This will enable you to make an informed choice about the suitability of the institution. We have a programme of improvements to the environment but we are a large campus set on a hill and you should see the environment for yourself to assess how you will cope. The University is gradually increasing the number of accessible rooms in halls of residence but once they are full we will not be able to guarantee you an accessible room.
