I joined the Centre for Health Planning and Management at Keele in 1993 following completion of an MSc in Statistics at the University of Kent at Canterbury. In 1997 I was awarded a NHS Executive (West Midlands) New Blood Research Training Fellowship during which I studied for a PhD in Medical Statistics jointly within the Centre for Health Planning and Management, and Department of Mathematics. I was awarded the PhD in 2000 and in the same year moved to the Primary Care Sciences Research Centre (now Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre). I was promoted to Reader in Biostatistics in 2009.

My research interests focus principally on population and consultation epidemiology, and the longitudinal course of symptoms and musculoskeletal problems in primary care. In particular I have a specific interest in the analysis of routinely recorded general practice medical record data, and their linkage to self-reported health status via population surveys. I am principal investigator for research using a local general practice consultation database (CiPCA).

Other interests include clinimetrics and applications in primary care research of statistical methodologies such as latent class analysis and multilevel modelling.
